[001] Accidental Audio

[There is a book laying on a near by table that Kushina doesn't see as she rushes toward the window. The first rustle of wind doesn't even jostle the pages, however when she flings the window open, the book flies open with it. There's a moments pause as Kushina takes in the contents of outside, the chill in the air, the foreign feel. The first thing she deems to greet Luceti with is:]

WHERE IS MINATO!? This isn't..!

[But then her angry heart-felt cry stops, the words dying mid-sentence as a wave of emotion tears into her. Whatever anger she felt quickly faded in lieu of grief. A loud bang against the window's frame and the rattle of glass.]

Naruto... Minato...

[It's quiet and sounds as though Kushina is on the verge of tears, if not already crying.]

This isn't the afterlife, I know it. It doesn't feel right. It's too real. I shouldn't be able to feel pain, y'know!

[Kushina slumps to the floor, the sound reverberating softly in the near-empty room. What was she supposed to do here? What was this place, even? It wasn't where she was supposed to be. Nowhere had ever felt more wrong in her life.]

[She might be convinced it's not the afterlife, but sometimes, Jiraiya is having trouble believing it. Like right now. Have an old pervert looking much older than you saw him last!]

... Kushina?

[Stare. He can't even immediately make a crack about seeing her; it's been too long, and she's a part of the past he tried too hard to ignore.]

[Okay where the hell is that voice coming from?! She peers out the window, looking down, though that doesn't feel right. It sounded closer. Like it was coming from behind her.

Kushina wipes the evidence of any tears away before she stands again, and finds the journal open and Jiraiya's picture.

What the--?]

Jiraiya? I always knew you would be published, but I didn't think you would go this far!

[Oh look, even now she has a sense of humor.]

[She always did have a great sense of humor, even in the most unlikely of times. Even with the shock of seeing her again - it really shouldn't surprise him, not when he's dead too - he can still appreciate the joke.]

Ah, these books are special, apparently. This whole place is 'special,' if you ask me. But it's a good way to see old familiar faces.

[This place, huh? she mutters softly to herself. Kushina's definitely not surprised to hear that somehow, though she does crack a smile.]

Well, I know it's not the afterlife. I doubt you'd die so easily, old man. So you can't be greeting me from the other side.

[Though they're harsh words, she's only teasing him. Jiraiya played a pretty important role in her and Minato's life, so he's more of a friend and father figure than someone she'd be purposefully rude to. And it's not her style anyway.]

How long have you been here, and what do you mean by these books being special? I've never seen anything like this.

[cue Kushina picking it up to examine. what a shaky scene~]

Minato? Do you mean Minato Arisato, miss?

[He doesn't know if there are other Minato around.]

Anyway, you're right, this isn't the afterlife. Don't worry the pain will fade soon, if it's the one in your back you're talking about. Eh... Where are you? I can go and pick you up and help you get to the village or get clothes or food or whatever you need.

[Er about that dying thing... heh, let's not go there just yet, he really doesn't want to get into it. That's a pretty sore point. So moving right along from that!]

[Another person? Wow this book really was special! Though... the name difference is disheartening and perhaps that comes through in her voice.]

Namikaze Minato. I guess it would make sense not to meet him here, then.

[Kushina sighs softly, maybe a little suddenly frustrated, but whatever that is she keepsit reigned in.]

If you could just tell me what this place is, that would be more help. I'm already somewhere that seems safe.

Oh, I've been here for a couple days yet, little more. Apparently new people tend to show up all at a time, from what I'm hearing.

[He shrugs a little.]

Well, you can see some of what it's doing. Apparently they keep everyone all connected in this place. Pretty neat, if you ask me. If only my publisher could have worked out something like this...

[Not getting into how long it's been since he saw her, no sentimentality over one of his favorite people, one of his actual close friends... this is Jiraiya. Keep it casual, keep it cool. Like he just saw her yesterday.]

Oh, no, no! I don't know Namikaze-san, but in this place you can meet anyone, really. There's no such a thing as "sense" in this place regarding the people that are here, maybe I just have missed him or something, I don't know all the people in Luceti after all.

[Don't get sad, miss. It wasn't his intention.]

That's nice, sometimes people are left in apartments and such but pretty often they are dropped at the forest. Eh... This village is called Luceti and while it's not the afterlife, it's not your world either, probably not even close to it. I can't tell you why you're here, beyond that it's something that happens here, people from many different worlds being pulled here is pretty common. But I can tell you that leaving isn't as easy as arriving, both are equally out of our control though.

[She'll have none of that, Jiraiya.]

Publisher... you finally did it?

[And now Kushina's going to flip the book back up to see Jiraiya's picture again, peering closely to the book as if trying to study it. She noticed his age difference immediately, but didn't dwell on it. Now that it was staring her in the face - literally and figuratively - she couldn't help it.]

Congratulations! What did you finally decide to write about anyway? I never got to ask you.

[So there was a chance he might be here? That this Luceti place is big enough that he might be somewhere? Kushina wants to hope that he is, but she's not childish enough to let herself hold out for it. She's waited sixteen years, though it seemed like little more than the blink of an eye, she can wait longer if she has to.]

So... it could be a second lease on life? [Small laugh] I don't know if I'm being smiled on or punished.

Finally did it! The new book took off like wildfire - got a series deal out of it and everything!

[He is actually pretty proud of that. See, he can write! At the 'never got to ask,' his expression wavers faintly, but he holds back. Ah, death, the big elephant in the room in this place.]

It's adventure and romance, a little something for everyone!

[It might be the beauty of her having died first, though likely not. She knows you, Jiraiya. She can see when you don't want to talk about something. She'll be respectful for a while, but just you watch. She'll sniper when he least expects it, old pervert.

Kushina laughs, though.]

If you write any here, let me read? You know Minato and I both always liked your writing.

[Ah, Kushina, so crafty. And he'll likely fall for it, too.]

Of course! Nothing can make me stop writing! Although... heh, it's a little different from Gutsy Ninja, I have to admit.

Don't tell me... it's hentai?

[Nope. She doesn't look surprised. What would surprise her is hearing Kakashi is his biggest fan, since she never would have pegged him as being such a pervert. From Jiraiya, it's expected.]

[She could have sworn this woman said Naruto's name.]

[Kushina beams at him, into the little portal page of that book she's holding. Lee reminds her of that kid that was always chasing Minato's student, Kakashi, around. So, the familiarity is mutual for different reasons.]

I did... didn't think anyone was listening in on me, though. [Small blush, all bashful-like] Are you one of his friends?

[B'aww this girl. She looks so sweet and shy, and she can tell just by looking at her she's one of those Hyuuga kids. Kushina smiles at her, though instead of a regular smile filled with friendliness, this one is brimming with motherly pride.]

He's my son.

[Okay, that earns Kushina a very astonished Hyuuga. She very well knows that Naruto was orphaned so that just means, like Asuma and Jiraiya, this woman had come back from the dead.

But for her to actually meet her-] Ah- I apologize if I was rude upon asking- I- I did not realize... [Since none of them ever met his parents.]

[She waves the question away like it wasn't a big deal.]

You're from the village right?

[She's still smiling, though the pride turns a little bittersweet. This girl's young, probably Naruto's age. If they know each other...]

Are you one of Naruto's friends? I've heard he's made lots and would love to meet them all [her words trail off for a moment, thoughtful.] though how likely that is here, I don't know.

Y- Yes, I am. [To both her questions, though she doesn't know if she answered that second one right. Yes, she and Naruto are in a relationship but she doesn't want to preempt him. It wouldn't feel right if she'll be the one to tell Kushina. Hinata doesn't want to be rude and her next words should prove this.]

I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Hyuuga Hinata. It's a real pleasure to meet Naruto-kun's mother.

It's okay, I didn't exactly introduce myself right either y'know! I'm Uzumaki Kushina, but none of this 'Uzumaki-san' stuff, got it? I'm not an old lady yet!

[She laughs good naturedly.]

I would say it's nice to meet you, Hinata, but I don't think this actually counts does it?
